Payment failures can be frustrating, but they are usually easy to resolve. Here are the most common causes and how to fix them.

Common Reasons for Payment Failure
  • Insufficient funds: Your card or account does not have enough balance to cover the purchase
  • Card expired: Your card's expiry date has passed. Check the expiry on your physical card.
  • Incorrect card details: Card number, expiry date, or CVV entered incorrectly
  • 3D Secure failed: You did not complete the bank's 3D Secure verification (the pop-up asking for a code or app approval)
  • Card issuer declined: Your bank declined the transaction for security reasons
  • Browser or connection issues: The payment did not complete due to a slow connection or browser error

How to Fix It

Step 1: Check Your Card Details

Go back to checkout and carefully re-enter your card number, expiry date, and CVV. Make sure there are no typos and the card has not expired.

Step 2: Try Again

Sometimes a temporary issue with the payment network causes a one-time failure. Wait a minute and try the payment again.

Step 3: Complete 3D Secure

If your bank uses 3D Secure (Verified by Visa or Mastercard Secure Code), watch for a pop-up or redirect asking you to verify the payment through your banking app or a text message code. Make sure pop-ups are not blocked in your browser.

Step 4: Contact Your Bank

If the payment continues to fail, call the number on the back of your card. Your bank can tell you exactly why the transaction was declined and unblock it if needed.

Step 5: Try a Different Payment Method

If your card continues to be declined, try:

  • A different card
  • A diiferent bank

Note: If a payment fails, you are not charged. Failed payment attempts do not create orders. Your cart items are saved so you can try again.

Tip: If you see a temporary hold or "pending" charge on your bank statement from a failed attempt, this is a pre-authorisation hold and will be released automatically by your bank within 3 to 5 business days.
